| 1. Why are the INTERSURGICAL Filta-Therm® and Filta-GuardTM products different from other filters in the market? Filta-Therm® and Filta-GuardTM are electrostatic filters with a bacterial and viral filtration efficiency of 99.999%. A filtration efficiency of 99.999% defines that only one particle of 100,000 challenging the filter has the potential for breakthrough. In older technology there were only pleated membrane filters which could achieve this efficiency. Filta-Therm® and Filta-GuardTM are the first electrostatic filters to achieve this level of filtration. In this case the potential for particles breaking through the filter is 100 in the same challenge of 100,000. Breakthrough, however, always depends on the size of the particle challenging the filter. It is easy to say that a filter has a 99.999999999... % efficiency, if the challenging particle is the size of a football. Filta-Therm® and Filta-Guard were tested with particles as small as 0.017µ and for time periods of up to 24 hours, our maximum recommended usage time.
