Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) causes prolonged intubation and a prolonged stay in ICU with the associated costs. It is also a serious cause of mortality in compromised patients.

A combination of oral care treatments (brushing and suctioning) within a proper oral care protocol means care providers can efficiently prevent oropharyngeal bacterial biofilm build-up, which in turn leads to a reduction of VAP and aspiration pneumonias and greatly reduces associated treatment costs.

Importance of NIV in Paediatric and Infant Respiratory Diseases

Respiratory diseases are among the leading causes of hospitalisation and mortality in infants and children worldwide. Conditions such as bronchiolitis, pneumonia, asthma exacerbations, and neuromuscular disorders can quickly compromise breathing, making early and effective respiratory support essential.

Nasal High Flow (NHF), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Non-invasive Ventilation (NIV) therapies can provide a safe and effective means of supporting breathing without the need for endotracheal intubation. By delivering positive airway pressure through a nasal interface, a mask or a helmet, NIV improves gas exchange, reduces the work of breathing, and helps prevent respiratory muscle fatigue. Its use is expanding across neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, emergency departments, and even home settings, reflecting its versatility and clinical value.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of VT Select Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) Resuscitators, the latest addition to our BVM offering. This product has been designed with a focus on clinical precision, ease of use, and, most importantly, patient safety.

As demonstrated by previous studies¹, manual resuscitation can be highly variable from provider to provider. The VT Select helps to minimise the variability in treatment by using a timed refill valve at the back of the bag.
